Try the Trend: How to Hang Platters & Plates On A Wall

December 6, 2023

Pin

With the resurgence in traditional and nostalgic interiors, one of my favorite trends to take hold is hanging and displaying dishes. It instantly adds a charm, approachability and warmth to a space. After years of hiding our family heirloom dishes in cabinets, it’s finally time to pull them out and proudly display them!

When it comes to styling hanging plates there are no rules: collect mis-matched dishes or display a set of matching plates all together. I love mixing different sizes – small saucers or odd-shaped plates with larger platters – in similar colors. This gives the collected look without being too busy. I also love a lot of the same plate (think 10-12 dishes) grouped together on a wall to really create a statement. And bonus points if they’re hung on a wall treatment of paneling, wallpaper or tile; the layering of materials creates such a beautiful moment.

My favorite dishes to collect are ironstone and transfer ware. If you’re lucky you can find them as antiques, and the older they are, the more crazing and character they embody. This is a fun item to hunt for when you’re out thrifting or antiquing, but Etsy also has a lot of great dishes that have already been found for you. I found these two dishes one separate trips to a local antique store. I’m still on the hunt for a few more to place on the opposite side of this window in our mudroom.

Personally, I like to hang plates with traditional brass hangers. I love how you get a small peek of brass on the plates. There are other great adhesive options if you cannot nail into the surface where you want your plates to be hung or if you have a tiny dish to hang. For my larger plates or platters I especially like to use brass hangers so they’re secure on the wall.

Shop different plate hangers below. They come in a range of sizes depending on what size plate you’re hanging. I also linked a bunch of antique dishes and platters from Etsy. Happy styling!

There is a beauty and ease that comes with life by There is a beauty and ease that comes with life by the sea, whether it be on northern or southern shores. Seashells are a quintessential beauty that are worn by living creatures, eventually discarded for us to enjoy or broken down to become one with the earth. They’re a reminder of the beauty of life and how powerful nature can be. And because of that, I think they’re a perfect addition to any room – no matter where you live!

We started planning and renovating this space abou We started planning and renovating this space about two years ago and I have a few takeaways now that we’ve lived with it:
- so glad we fit as much shelving into this space as possible
- storing our microwave in here is 👌
- I toyed with the idea of adding an ice maker in here…kinda wish I would have
- the wallpaper was the best splurge
- removing walls isn’t always the answer (we split a hallway in two to create this space)
