Quiet Coastal: Decor Inspired By Life By The Sea

April 23, 2025

Pin

There is a beauty and ease that comes with life by the sea, whether it be on northern or southern shores. When you reside by the water you shape your life to it; by nature it dictates much of how life is lived. Everything ebbs and flows according to the rhythms of the earth and tides, the coast slowly shaping itself or giving way to the changing waters. The sea and everything in it is the perfect reminder to slow down, find peace in the present and that all good & beautiful things take time.

When it comes to interiors inspired by the beach or sea, I’m sure a good portion of us picture knotted rope, kitschy boat/shell/starfish items and a few wall hangings with words on them…but that does not have to be the case! And you don’t even need to live on the coast to bring the sweet reminder of the sea into your home for fear of it looking out of place. Seashells are a quintessential beauty that are worn by living creatures, eventually discarded for us to enjoy or broken down to become one with the earth. They’re a reminder of the beauty of life and how powerful nature can be. And because of that, I think they’re a perfect addition to any room – no matter where you live.

With summer approaching this is a great time to add an object, dishes or a vase inspired by the sea into your home to usher in the warmer months. Personally, I have my brass clam shell out year-round and fill it with candy for seasonal holidays or just as a pretty piece on my coffee table. Etsy has some of the best pieces, but I also recommend searching Facebook Marketplace – that’s where I found mine! Shop some of my saved seashell and clam inspired pieces below.

I rearranged the back patio a bit and I’m loving how it feels. Just a little reminder that it doesn’t take big bucks or an overhaul for something to feel fresh again!

We started planning and renovating this space abou We started planning and renovating this space about two years ago and I have a few takeaways now that we’ve lived with it:
- so glad we fit as much shelving into this space as possible
- storing our microwave in here is 👌
- I toyed with the idea of adding an ice maker in here…kinda wish I would have
- the wallpaper was the best splurge
- removing walls isn’t always the answer (we split a hallway in two to create this space)

You can read all about this project on the blog! Link in bio 🫶
