The Most Charming Half Bath You Will Ever See

When we first walked through this house we knew it had 4 bathrooms – but only 3 were in the listing photos. Right as we came through the front door into the foyer I walked into what I thought was a closet. To my surprise (and joy) it was this tiny half bath under the staircase! I about died from the charm. These little details and quirks of old homes are what always make me fall in love with them.

This little space is original to the house so I definitely wanted to keep as much of it intact as we could right now. We will eventually have to replace the breaking tile and peeling wallpaper, but for now, I wanted to give it a little facelift to feel like a real jewel box. I painted the trim and ceiling Benjamin Moore Ruby Dusk to match the tile, made a skirt sink and swapped the plumbing fixtures for all brass. I am still not over that toilet knob!

Ty also moved the brass sconce to the landing where you can see it from the front door. Because it was not at all obvious that this was anything other than a closet I wanted to draw more attention to it for guests and the pretty of it. I swapped the lampshade for these marbled shades from Pooky Lighting that I adore – that punch of modern in this very traditional room is such a great moment. We also added my new favorite recessed light over the toilet and sink area so it wasn’t in the dark.

But I really think the sink skirt is my favorite part of the room. It feels so overtly formal yet approachable – I think the tassel fringe helps dress it down a bit.
