One Room Challenge Week 4 Bathroom Progress: Shower Tile, Paint Samples & Lighting

October 21, 2021

It’s Week Four of the One Room Challenge and I’m hitting the middle-of-project lull; you know, when you’re questioning why you ever started the project in the first place? I joke, but the feeling is real! It’s easy to lose steam and feel discouraged with progress when you’re knee deep in a renovation or remodel. Progress tends to feel like inching along rather than flying through to-do lists and it can kill excitement for the end result. But while it may be slow, it’s progress none the less!

Let’s get to this week’s updates. First up: tile. We have a lot of tile yet to lay, and while it’s taking awhile, its definitely worth the time and effort to get it just right. Ty has been doing a great job getting the details right in this shower – specifically on the corner cuts. I asked to miter the corners around the niche and shower opening and he figured it out! These little details make me super happy.

While Ty was working on tile last weekend, I painted the walls and ceiling Benjamin Moore Simply White. I also grabbed a few paint samples for the trim and vanity. Right now the front runners are BM Gray Husky and BM Sabre Gray (which I think is a dead-ringer for Farrow & Ball Lamp Room Gray).

I’m currently leaning toward the more neutral, less green tone of Gray Husky – but I’m still mulling it over.

But most exciting of all: we have vanity lighting!! I’ve had these sconces in boxes for over a year so it felt really good to get them up on the wall. These were the very first thing I ordered for this bathroom remodel; I love the seeded glass and large scale of these. Plus, they feel a little unexpected, which kicks up the interest factor.

I’m currently working on finding the perfect mirror. I do have one I planned to use, but I don’t get super excited when I see it in the space. I will also be finalizing the vanity color & hardware in the next few days, so be sure to follow along on Instagram for updates over the weekend. For the next week we will be knee-deep in tile adhesive – and hopefully be grouting by Week 5!

Don’t forget to head to the One Room Challenge site to check out the progress from all other official and guest participants to see what they’re up to this week:

Our days are numbered in this little house of ours Our days are numbered in this little house of ours 🥺 all of the house showings, packing and move prep has me donating items + bringing in a few new things that needed a refresh. I added a new set of bedding to our room from @onequince it feels so luxurious but is also very affordable. I’ve shopped @onequince for a few years now and I’ve never been disappointed! We have their bamboo sheets and European linen duvet on our bed in the color Sand - the color feels so rich and beautiful in person. The duvet also comes in a micro stripe that I have my eye on…maybe for the new house! #QuincePartner

I have a few iron obelisks but I wanted to make some that felt a little more wild and organic; this was a super cheap project and I love how they turned out! You could even use branches from around your yard. Just hot glue and cover any joints with twine. Instant charm 🫶

Seashells are a quintessential beauty that are worn by living creatures, eventually discarded for us to enjoy or broken down to become one with the earth. They’re a reminder of the beauty of life and how powerful nature can be. And because of that, I think they’re a perfect addition to any room – no matter where you live!

We started planning and renovating this space abou We started planning and renovating this space about two years ago and I have a few takeaways now that we’ve lived with it:
- so glad we fit as much shelving into this space as possible
- storing our microwave in here is 👌
- I toyed with the idea of adding an ice maker in here…kinda wish I would have
- the wallpaper was the best splurge
- removing walls isn’t always the answer (we split a hallway in two to create this space)

You can read all about this project on the blog! Link in bio 🫶
