summer so far

Six weeks in and six weeks to go before school starts again! We are fully enjoying the beautiful summer weather by spending as much time outside as possible. This $50 chaise turned out to be one of the best purchases ever – I use it nearly everyday while the kids play in our blow up water slide. Our back patio continues to be one of my favorite places and well worth the work we did on it in 2020.

A few snaps from around the house from June: my favorite flowers and quiet scenes from our bedroom. I found the little capiz shell from TJ Maxx and it’s such a pretty reminder of my favorite places in the world.

I told Ty the other day that this is the first summer I feel I have fully enjoyed in a few years. With his recent job change, I have been working less and at home full time with the kids. There are parts of that I love (easygoing days, lots of time outside, more time spent with the kids) and parts of it that I don’t love so much (arguing siblings, my house is constantly dirty, I’d love to talk to an adult) – but all in all, I’m very grateful that I have the opportunity to stay home with them for another year or so until they are all in school full time. So this year has been a bit of an adjustment for me. On the long days I have to remind myself that this is what I want and I will soon enough be working again. When I first started the blog I just had the older two at home who were 2 and 4 at the time, and it was absolutely the creative outlet I needed; I somehow found time to do quite a bit despite two toddlers constantly at my feet. Lately I have less energy – and have somewhat lost my way a bit over the past few years. I used to rearrange and style my home daily – it never got old! I have the sense that I need to readjust and rediscover the creative spark that has me staying up late working on a project that I just can’t put down.
All that to say: I started painting. It is teaching me a lot about how much I doubt myself, that more is more, and how creativity takes time. It’s been a good exercise for me lately and I’m really enjoying it!

I found the coveted The Row Margaux bag dupe at my local TJ Maxx on clearance (!!!) and I just couldn’t pass it up. I don’t have any suede handbags in my closet and I immediately fell for this one. The color is the perfect shade to carry me from summer into the cooler months. It also is big enough to hold my laptop, samples and anything else I need to schlep around. You can still snag this for yourself at Marshalls!
I bought a handful of dresses for this summer and I continue to reach for this denim halter number from Gap. It’s comfy, cute, has pockets and is great for running errands as much as it is for date night. I’m wearing the petite small.
