Friday Focus: January 6

heading into 2023

Hi friends! Happy January! After taking a few weeks off over Christmas I’m excited to jump back into work. Every year I’m ready for a fresh start that a new year brings and am filled with big aspirations and plans. But this year more than ever I’m filled with a sense of being ready to “grow up.” That feels a little silly to type out (since I’ll be turning 33 this year), but the truth is there are so many habits I’d love to leave behind and spend more energy on the things that I know will ultimately bring more fulfillment, joy & success into our life. Right now we’re in a season where our kids are still young, we’ve created a good amount of margin in our lives compared to previous years, and are filled with a sense that we have a lot of growing to do. Right now it feels like we have a real opportunity to invest in ourselves by doing the internal work that we know will lead to lasting, deeper change that Ty and I are both craving.

When it comes to planning and goals I tend to hold my plans loosely in my hands. In my early life I didn’t have a strong sense of security and would put most of my energy into creating stability in my present circumstances without making future plans – and when you’re so wrapped up in your current circumstances, planning for the future seems trivial. I’m still not great at setting goals for myself and sticking to them because I am too quick to give them up, even if it’s something I really want — and believe I can accomplish. Personally, I need to give up the “safety” of avoiding big goals for fear of what that would mean if I fail (and the lack of security that would leave me with). I know that I need to continue accomplishing small wins so that it gives me some footing for going for the bigger things I dream of doing one day.

So while we have projects lined up for this year and exciting things coming, my heart and mind is much more focused on the internal, personal work I know it is going to take to make me into the wife, mom, business woman and friend that I want to be. And I’m really excited that it seems like this is the year for it! Here’s to 2023!

lately

After clearing out Christmas things were feeling a little empty, so I rearranged a little to freshen up our front room. This vintage secretary is usually in our dining room and holds all of the kids’ art and craft supplies. So while keeping this here was a little impractical – it was still fun to get my creativity flowing by reimagining my spaces with what I already have.

Speaking of Christmas, I really loved our tree this year – I was a little sad to take it down! Here’s a look back on this years decorations. I’ll never tire of greenery and natural elements at Christmastime. And little Christmas trees…always lots of tiny trees.

on my wish list

Here are a few pieces for the house (lamp for the dining room, great oversized frames) & styling items (can you handle those twisted taper candles?) along with the shoes I’ve had my eye on for awhile:
