Lately when I come across a new-to-me designer, more often than not, they originate from either the UK or Spain. I am immediately drawn to these spaces for their ability to gracefully transcend trends and design rules; they make you go, “wait, when was this home built? when was this room designed?” By blending architecture that is centuries old with modern conveniences, natural materials and living finishes with proactive pieces of art, these spaces evoke more of a feeling than anything else. They draw you in with their subtle details, inviting you to explore the next room (because why did we ever decide to start removing every single wall in our homes?) that will inevitably lend a new experience from the place you just left. It’s design that has soul, history, intention and depth. As you can tell – I am just fascinated by this world of designing. To have visitors into your home leaving with more of a feeling of a beauty (which encompasses so much more than how something looks on the surface) – rather than the shallow nature of obvious beauty that can be achieved by buying up a showroom set or mimicking a popular designer – that’s what I want my home to represent. We know that feelings are closely tied to memories and experiences (good or bad) and to build a home around how we want to feel at home, honoring our history and memories, I believe will be much more gratifying in the end.
So, I’m taking heavy notes on every space I come across the evokes a feeling in me. Why am I drawn to it? What feelings are rising to the surface? How can I recreate this feeling in my own home?

We had a few days of blessed sunshine here and it was so refreshing. The front room full of sunlight is always the happiest room in the house – paired with Valentine’s flowers it made this view even sweeter.
I spent most of January and this month in front of my computer and I’m really itching to get my hands busy with some more creative tasks. I’ve been debating painting our bedroom for awhile now, but I decided to wallpaper instead! This corner is already a popular favorite and I think it will be even more so after I add grasscloth to these walls.

I’ve already hinted at this a few times, but handmade lamps are coming to the Home Theology Shop and I am so excited. I’m working with my mom on these – it’s very gratifying to develop products, seeing them go from concepts to a finished item that you can hold in your hand. And because I am so passionate about lighting this one has been extra fun. Keep an eye out for the launch on March 27!
