Friday Focus: February 10

February 10, 2023

You may have noticed that I haven’t written a Friday Focus post in awhile – and as you can see, my website got a little facelift! I hadn’t really organized my site since sometime in 2020 so it was overdue. I don’t mind working on backend website items but I’m left wondering how so many people can regularly stare at computer screens for for 50 hours a week… I was definitely part zombie for most of the month of January. But it feels amazing to be organized and I now have more creative, engaging work on the calendar for the weeks ahead.

I had been wanting to work on this oversized canvas in our tv den for weeks (maybe months) now and yesterday I finally just hit pause on everything else, threw on some music and started painting/experimenting. I don’t consider myself an artist but I actually really enjoy working on abstract artwork. There are really no rules, it pushes my creativity and if you I don’t like it – I can paint right over it and start again. I think this canvas now has 4 or so layers to it and now I’m working on the final elements. I liked the effect of taking my colored pencils and brushing out the strokes with a paint brush, was wanting an unexpected color to make an appearance, so I mixed up a touch of yellow paint. This was where I stopped yesterday and will probably try to “finish” it up today.

screenshots from the week

1.) I am actually obsessed with this dinnerware from Get The Gusto. I’ve been loving the idea of collecting either vintage china or investing in a modern set of dishes – but anything this amazing will probably wait until once our kids are a little older. 2.) I’ve been finding so many great pieces on Marketplace lately (like this drop leaf side table) that I’ve had to resist the urge to hoard everything I find. 3.) Prospect Refuge Studio is always putting out really inspiring design, but this shot from their stories this week stopped me in my tracks. Why not paint the ceilings a color instead the walls? And the coordinating chair and rug? I’m still drinking in every detail.

on this day in 2016

my iPhone reminded me this morning with the “Memories” alert that on this day in 2016 we were getting our existing home ready to sell and doing one of the first walkthroughs of our current home. I had gotten my DSLR as a gift the previous Christmas, and since then our life has been well documented thanks to all of the photos I’ve taken. I love that I have 12k+ (literally) photos of so many life moments that lead up until today. But looking back on those old photos feels like another lifetime ago. And what’s interesting is that the work I do now was nowhere on my radar – even though I had already been doing little DIY projects (like the hanging sand dollar artwork) for a few years – and I was just happy to get my hands on a big project! Life is always full of surprises.

what’s in my shopping cart

A few things that have been on my wishlist: an electric tea kettle, platform sneakers, a collection of glass candlesticks and a statement vase that looks good whether it’s empty or full of fresh blooms.

Happy Friday!

He was in need of a nice, flat weave rug (because Legos) and I was really excited to get this Henley rug by @loloirugs x @joannagaines @magnolia from their latest collab. I have these rugs all over my house because I seriously love them and they wear so well! More to come on this little room of his.

Uncover the back patio with me! After days of rain Uncover the back patio with me! After days of rain it’s time to let the furniture breathe a bit and open everything up to the sun. With part of our patio being pea gravel, the easiest way to get loose stones back where they belong is with our leaf blower - we recently topped it off with more gravel so it’s looking extra plush lately. You will find me here tonight pretending that it’s already the weekend 🥂

I rearranged the back patio a bit and I’m loving how it feels. Just a little reminder that it doesn’t take big bucks or an overhaul for something to feel fresh again!
